ISIL’s Godfather Sheds Crocodile Tears

Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah says ISIL’s terrorism campaign will soon spread to Europe and the United States “unless it is quickly dealt with in the Middle East.”

Abdullah goes on to warn that, “If the terrorist outfit is neglected I'm sure after a month it will arrive in Europe and a month after that in America."

Abdullah’s concerns are understandable, yet he is way off the line to claim his prodigal son (who also happens to speak with British and American accents) would soon end up at the doorsteps of the US and its duped allies.

Quite the opposite, if there is any new quest for the beheading dogs of ISIL, it will be first and foremost at the Saudi-Qatari doorsteps, which are closer to Iraq, particularly in Riyadh - the birthplace of ISIL and al-Qaeda.

Besides, more needs to be done politically, diplomatically and economically to keep the ISIL goons down. Any sort of strategy that is predicated only on the use of force, as the Saudi king would like to suggest, will not be an enduring solution at all.

To put the ISIL dogs down, the international community, including the United Nations Security Council, must first support the governments in Iraq and Syria to fight the terrorist outfit on all fronts; cut off its Saudi-Qatari funds which ensure the thriving “caliphate”; close the “Jihadist Highway” through Jordan and Turkey; and build a true international coalition if indeed no one likes the prodigal son - including his godfather.

And we haven’t even started talking about Washington and its planners to fundamentally rethink their imperial dreams, which are driving the extant foreign policy blunders around the globe - at gunpoint.

The reality is that the common policy of Washington and friends, as well as ISIL and terrorist friends is to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad in order to contain Iran and protect Israel. By continuing these contradictory policies in two countries, ISIL and other “good terrorists” in Syria are being helped by the U.S. and its allies.

So the international community shouldn’t ignore the role the House of Saud and other Persian Gulf monarchies have played in the survival and later expansion of ISIL and al-Qaeda across the region. The irony is that these regimes no longer have the upper hand in regional equations and do not live in a reality-based universe. That explains why they are now shedding crocodile tears.

Judging from recent developments, it is natural for these regimes to feel dishonored, overpowered, paralyzed, and insecure on all levels, just like their dying masters and terrorist enablers - who also do not know what they want to do with their home-grown terrorists.

Just for the record, in the 1950s, the US was also involved in covert and overt operations, overthrowing the governments of Iran and Guatemala. And almost as soon as the US got involved in Vietnam, it sent military troops into the Dominican Republic. Then the US, starting in 1975, provided support to Indonesia's brutal campaign to subdue the people of East Timor, in which hundreds of thousands of people were killed.

Between 1967 to 1973, an estimated 40,000 Vietnamese (besides an estimated civilian deaths of 3.5 million) were also killed by the CIA-sponsored “counter-terror” and “hunter-killer” teams.

The above examples are just the tip of the iceberg, yet more than sufficient to establish that the US does truly support terrorism in all shapes and forms.

In summation, what is vaguely visible from the above is the outline of a new American posture and colonialism in Iraq and Syria. What it doesn't look like is the posture of a murderous occupying power preparing to close up all military AND terrorist bases in the Middle East and head for home.
