dharnaVenue: Numaish Chowrangi steps away from mausoleum of founder of Pakistan Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Scene: Hundreds of thousands Shiites including women and children began reaching defying cold days and specially the nights of winter. Purpose:  To stage a historic sit-in in a bid to exert pressure on the government

so that the government play effective role to stop genocide of Shia Muslims across Pakistan.

Clad in black suits, they carried banners, placards and flags. The whole surrounding area reverberated with their slogans. Even the founder of Pakistan heard in his grave what they chanted. But, government took 39 hours to respond to their legitimate demands.

Conclusion:  Shiites got what they wanted. They expressed their unity. Union proved strength. They showed their mass power. They made Numaish Chowrangi Tahrir Sqaure of Pakistan. Shia Ulema Council of Pakistan gave the call for sit-in but they were welcomed by all Shia parties and groups. Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, Imamia Students Organisation, Pasban-e-Aza and Jafaria Legal Aid Committee were a few among them.

Law-abiding Shiites expressed their enhanced political maturity. They remained peaceful even though they were highly charged to vent anger over the genociders. No damage to any person or property during their 39-hours-stay since Friday afternoon to early Sunday morning.

“We know who is involved in our genocide. They are not takfiri nasbi terrorists alone but there are many others,” said a middle-aged man.

Labbaik Ya Hussain (AS) and Labbaik Ya Mahdi (AS) remained popular slogan of the sitters.

“We shall continue following the true path of Islam of Mohammad (Peace Be upon Him) and his infallible progeny (peace upon them),” vowed, Asad Kazmi, a youth.

The protestors were well-organized and disciplined. Minor children were seen in the lap of their mothers. For them, Imam Hussain (AS) also brought his 6 months son Ali Asghar (AS) to Karbala. Youths follow Ali Akbar (AS), the young son of Imam Hussain (AS). Hazrat Fatima, the adoring daughter of Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH), last apostle and Prophet of Allah Almighty and Hazrat Zainab (AS), the sister of Imam Hussain (AS) remain undisputed role models for all Shia women even today. Hence, Shia Islam knows well how to react to injustices.

Ordinary Shiites who had no affiliation with any Shia party largely thronged Numaish Chowrangi on main M.A. Jinnah Road. They outnumbered those who are members of Shia parties.

“We feel happy to see our parties are united. It is a common cause and we all act as a single person. Thank God, the enemies’ plots have pushed us to unity,” said Naeem Haider.

Shiites expressed anger over the role of ruling coalition against the outlawed groups’ notorious takfiri terrorists. They also smelt a rat behind the genocide of Shiites.

“How takfiri terrorists of banned parties can kill us in the area of ruling MQM in Karachi? It remains a mystery that need to be sorted out by the MQM,” an elderly Shia woman Batool Zahra said.

There were thousands more who expressed their agreement with the notion of the elderly woman. They expressed similar views. However, their main target was outlawed terror groups’ notorious takfiri terrorists.

It was second historic show of power by Shiites. Last year, they staged a rally from Incholi near Sohrab Goth and turned it into a sit-in in front of Governor House after marching through Shahrah-e-Pakistan, M.A. Jinnah Road and Saddar area. Then, a Shia legal advisor Askari Raza was martyred. Shiites from across Karachi gathered and remained there throughout the coldest night and said sorry to New Year 2012.

The 2012’s December 14-16 sit-in brought more participation. On the ground, ordinary Shiites were united and at the camp of leadership their religious scholars and leaders had joined hands. Allama Shaikh Hassan Salahuddin, Allama Mirza Yousuf Hussain, Allama Hassan Zafar Naqvi, Allama Ali Murtaza Zaidi, Allama Nazir Abbas Taqvi, Maulana Sadiq Raza Taqvi, Allama Jafar Subhani, S M Haider, Syed Taswwur Hussain and senior scholars belonged to different parties and groups but they sent differences for interment.

“Governor Sindh, chief representative of federal government in the province, held meeting with Shia leadership and gave categorical assurance to meet all their demands,” said I. Ali, a Shia political commentator.

He hastened to add it was what the Shia leadership has sought from their protest and they finally attained it. Shia unity and show of mass power may be counted as bonus.
