Security officials in Northern Kundoz province said Taliban have suffered heavy casualties in the ongoing operation in Imam Sahib District.

General Abdul Saboor Nasrati, police chief of Kundoz province says at least 30 Taliban militants have been killed and several others wounded so far in the operation ongoing since five days, Khaama Press reported.

He said 31 villages in Imam Sahib District have been cleared off the Taliban presence.

He confirmed that two soldiers also embraced martyrdom in the fight with the militants.

Kundoz has seven districts with Imam Sahib being the most restive one.

Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) started large scale operation after reports of increasing insurgency surfaced from this district four days before.

Kundoz is one of the few provinces of Afghanistan where civilians are fighting alongside Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) against the insurgents.

Occasional clashes also occur between them causing casualties to both sides.

In August 2014, at least 20 civilians were killed and 10 others wounded in fighting with Taliban militants in the surrounding areas of Kundoz city.

Taliban have killed several civilians through roadside explosions in Kundoz and other provinces who have taken weapons against their insurgency.
