Taliban captured ISIS leader Mullah Abdul Rauf Khadim along with 45 supporters. The United States detained Khadim at Guantanamo Bay, but released him to Afghanistan in 2007, Pajhwok Afghan News reported.

Orders for Khadim’s arrest came from Taliban Governor Mullah Abdul Rahim Akhund “because he was against the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan”, the Taliban’s official name” and “involved in “anti-Islamic activities”. Taliban religious leaders and judges will judge Khadim and the 45 men.
Mullah Khadim, who claims allegiance to Daesh forcibly assembled local residents on Thursday last in the Kakaji’s Azan area and told the people that Mullah Omar [spiritual leader for the Taliban] no longer exists and they should now support him, one of Tribal leader Abdul Ahad Masoomi said.
Khadim fell out of favor with the Taliban and switched his support to the ISIS. He set up recruitment for the terrorist group in south Afghanistan, which is considered “the spiritual heart of the Taliban,” after the United States pulled out of the area. America did not view him as a threat, but in 2011, Newsweek reported he “commanded Mullah Omar’s elite mobile reserve force, fighting regime opponents all over Afghanistan.”

A group of former Taliban members pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in a video released on January 11.
Taliban claim responsibility for Kabul airport killings
The Afghan Taliban on Friday claimed responsibility for an apparent “insider attack” at Kabul airport .An Afghan soldier killed three U.S. contractors and wounded a fourth yesterday at Kabul's military airport, an Afghan air force official said.
An Afghan air force official said.A US defence official reportedly said that the American victims, who were employed to help train the Afghan air force, died from gunshot wounds.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said a member of the insurgent movement was responsible for the attack. “A brave Afghan infiltrator working in the military side of Kabul airport opened fire on invading American soldiers, killing three Americans,” he said.
The international force in Afghanistan confirmed the shooting took place on Thursday evening. It also confirmed that one Afghan had been killed but it did not specify that he was the attacker.
An increase in so-called insider attacks in Afghanistan eroded trust between government forces and their international allies in the final years of the combat mission that ended in 2014, prompting foreign forces to scale back interaction with Afghans.
