Afghan Army, Police Kill over 52 Insurgent Fighters in One Day

The Afghan Interior Ministry, in a statement on Monday, confirmed that at least 52 Taliban insurgents were killed in the operations of the Afghan National Army (ANA) and police across the country in the last 24 hours.

The statement said that the operations were conducted in Nangarhar, Laghman, Baghlan, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Sar-e-Pul, Logar, Paktika, Farah, Nimroz and Helmand provinces.

"Meantime, Afghan National Police discovered and defused six different types of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) in Balkh, Logar, Paktika and Farah provinces," the statement added.

In a statement on Sunday, the interior ministry said that ANA killed at least 38 Taliban fighters in various provinces across the country.

The statement said that the army's operations were conducted in Baghlan, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Sar-e-Pul, Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Logar and Helmand provinces.

It further added that three insurgents were also arrested during the operations.

"During the same 24-hour period, Afghan National Police discovered and defused 11 different types of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) placed in Logar and Badghis provinces," the statement said.
