Three Taliban militants have been killed after carrying out a bombing and staging an armed attack in the Afghan capital, Kabul.

The explosion saw an attacker setting off a car bomb in front of the house of Nahim Baluch, a former governor of the southern Afghanistan province of Helmand, on Monday, Reuters reported.

Two other assailants seized a nearby building and initiated an exchange of fire with security forces, which dragged into the next day and led to the death of the militants.

As many as 11 others, including civilians and police members, were also injured in the incidents.

Taliban militants have claimed responsibility for the bombing, saying Baloch was their main target.

Afghanistan is gripped by rampant insecurity nearly 14 years after the United States and its allies attacked the country as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. Although the invasion overthrew the Taliban, unbridled violence continues to plight many areas of the country.
