Azerbaijan government illegally arrested two Shiite activists about two year ago.

It is very common in Azerbaijan that when the security forces can not find any evidence against Shiite activist, they will make trumped up charges against them such as drug trafficking, arms smuggling and so on.

Meanwhile, another Azerbaijani Shiite activist, Haj Ilham Aliyev, was released after about two years wrongful imprisonment.

On April 2012 Azerbaijani security forces attacked the house of the Shiite cleric in the city of Dinah in Baku and illegally arrested him for allegedly carrying drugs and selling weapons for terrorist activities.

According to reports, his mother was passed away 3 months ago and when he asked for participating in funeral procession for his mother they did not let him to go.

Azerbaijan is the second Shia country in the world but unfortunately anti- Islamic acts hurt Muslims especially Islamic scholars and clerics. The current condition in Azerbaijan is, obviously enough, abysmal especially for Shia people. Azerbaijan government should avoid unfair laws against Shia and Sunni scholars eschewing from peeving innocent people.
