Bahrain SitraBahraini Security forces have killed an anti-regime protester who had participated in a rally in the island of Sitra.

The victim has been identified as Seyyed Mahmoud Seyyed Mohsen.

Reports indicate that the killing took place during clashes with protesters who had gathered to remember Ali Faisal al-Akrawi, who was killed in a blast near his home on May 16.

At the time of his death, Akrawi was reportedly in hiding following an absentia prison sentence of 10 years over his alleged role in anti-government protests.

On May 19, Amnesty International issued a statement voicing concern over the lack of judiciary reform in Bahrain and severe crackdown on anti-regime protesters.

The rights group criticized the country for “slow and inadequate investigations” into past human rights abuses and “continuing restrictions on freedom of expression, association and assembly.”

Since mid-February 2011, thousands of anti-regime protesters have held numerous demonstrations in the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifa family to relinquish power.

Tens of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on peaceful demonstrations.
