The Bahraini protesters once again poured to the streets across the Persian Gulf tiny island country on Friday to show their fury at the continued detention of the leading opposition figure and Shiite cleric, Sheikh Ali Salman.

The protesters held a rally in the village of Diraz, Northwestern Bahrain, located about 12 kilometers to the Southeast of Manama, after Friday prayers.

The Bahraini citizens demanded immediate release of Sheikh Salman, who heads Bahrain’s main opposition bloc, Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society.

Carrying portraits of Salman and Bahrain’s national flags, the protesters also called for the immediate release of all political dissidents currently being held in Bahraini regime's jails.

The Bahraini regime arrested Sheikh Salman on December 28, 2014 on charges of attempting to overthrow the Al Khalifa in "collaboration with foreign powers".

On June 16, a Bahraini court sentenced Sheikh Salman to four years in jail on charges such as insulting the Bahraini Interior Ministry and inciting others to break the law. He was acquitted of seeking regime change.

Anti-government protesters have been holding peaceful demonstrations across Bahrain since mid-February 2011, calling for an end to the al-Khalifa dynasty.

Violence against the defenseless people escalated after a Saudi-led conglomerate of police, security and military forces from the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) member states - Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar - were dispatched to the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom on March 2011, to help Manama crack down on peaceful protestors.

So far, tens of protesters have been killed, hundreds have gone missing and thousands of others have been injured.
