A Bahraini woman has lost her life and three children sustained injuries when a bomb explosion ripped through a car in the southern part of the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom.

“A terrorist act on Thursday claimed the life of a woman and injured three children who were with her in a car that was hit by shrapnel after a bomb exploded,” the Director General of Manama's Police Directorate said.

The Bahraini Interior Ministry announced in a statement that the incident took place in the village of East Eker, which lies south of the capital.

No individual or group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

On August 28, 2015, an explosion in the village of Karrana, west of Manama, killed one police officer and wounded seven other people, including a child.

The Bahraini Interior Ministry described the explosion as a “terrorist blast,” adding that four policemen were among those wounded in the act of violence.

In July that year, a bombing killed two police officers in the island of Sitra, south of the capital.
