bahrain polliceThe persecution of Bahraini protesters and activists signifies that the Al Khalifa regime lacks legitimacy to govern the Bahraini nation, a prominent analyst tellsPress TV.

“Al Khalifa as a family are really using all kinds of injustice and all instruments of the Americans and the Saudis in order to

put down the Bahrainis,” Mohsen Saleh, professor of the Lebanese University, told Press TV in an exclusive interview.

In addition to the imprisonment of Bahraini activists, including Nabeel Rajab, who is the president of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, the Bahraini government has jailed many children and women, Saleh said.
However, he reiterated that the international organizations should bring the Bahraini ruler, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the men in his inner circle to justice.

“In spite of all this, some international organizations are telling this government, or this regime, that these people are innocent, especially the activists of human rights like Nabeel Rajab and they (authorities) should free them,” Saleh maintained.

Human rights groups, including Amnesty International, have called for the immediate release of Rajab, arguing that the activist has been jailed only for peacefully exercising his right to freedom of expression.

“This Bahraini issue and the regional issues now are linked. And that’s why the US is trying to negotiate with other powers in the region concerning the issue of Bahrain and Iraq and the other issue, of course, of Syria,” Saleh noted.

Protest rallies in Bahrain are held almost every day in defiance of the Saudi-backed crackdown. The protesters say they will not stop until their demand for the establishment of a democratically elected government is met.

Scores of people have been killed by Bahraini regime forces since a popular uprising erupted against the ruling Al Khalifa family in February 2011. Bahraini demonstrators hold King Hamad responsible for the deaths of protesters.
