khalilAl-Wefaq National Islamic Society in Bahrain considers the politicized decision of arresting the prominent leader, Khalil Al Marzooq, and keeping him as a hostage as a serious and dangerous escalation taken by the regime in Bahrain. “A judiciary without human values is worthless”

Al-Wefaq strongly denounces the aggressive baseless and fake accusations made against Al Marzooq. Al Wefaq said, “The accusations are vindictive and are meant to attack any alternative opinions to the regime.” Al-Wefaq added, “The political majority in Bahrain is accused of demanding democratic change in the country to end an oppressive authoritarian regime which is controlling the judiciary, the security and all powers.

Al Wefaq stressed that the arrest of Al Marzooq comes after calls raised by the international community on the Government of Bahrain. 47 countries have signed a resolution in the Human Rights Council in Geneva denouncing the regime in Bahrain for inhumanly handling the basic human rights, calling for fair trials that hold all human rights abusers accountable.

Al-Wefaq stressed that the Political Assistant of Al Wefaq Secretary General, Khalil Al Marzooq (deputy speaker of the Parliament and a resigned MP) has always called for a peaceful movement to realize the desired democratic change. He has always called for national unity despite all the killings, verbal assaults and demolishing of mosques. Now he is put on trial by a sectarian mentality that has already killed more than 100 citizens, arrested over 6000, injured over 5000, and dismissed over 4400 workers and demolished 38 mosques.

Al-Wefaq stressed that such incidents will strengthen the people and will make them more united and resolute to realize their demands. The uprising will continue until real democracy is realized.
