bahrainBahrain's Council of Clerics has warned that the situation in the Persian Gulf island is deteriorating gradually and steadily.

The Council issued a statement saying the crisis in the Arab country will only end when all Bahraini people are

allowed to participate in the political process.

This comes while the Manama regime insists on resisting the people's peaceful demands, the statement added.

The Council further noted that the regime's use of heavy-handed tactics against protesters and the politically motivated court rulings cannot deter the people from continuing their revolution.

Meanwhile, people in the village of Sanabis, outside the capital Manama held a demonstration against the Al Khalifa regime. The protesters called for the release of all political prisoners and expressed support for all people who had suffered at the hands of the regime.

On Monday, Bahrain’s main opposition bloc al-Wefaq along with the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) and the Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights (BYSHR) documented attacks by regime forces on several Shia neighborhoods in the country during the religious ceremonies commemorating Ashoura.

Ashoura marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.

The two rights groups said the attacks violate freedom of religion, freedom of expression, and amount to discrimination against majority Shias with the aim of increasing sectarianism in the Bahraini society.

Scores have been killed, many of them under torture while in custody, and thousands more detained since a popular uprising began in Bahrain in early 2011.
