Iran is scheduled to hold an international conference on the World Against Extremism and Violence (WAVE) with the presence of envoys from 40 countries.

The WAVE conference will be held in the capital Tehran on December 9 and 10, secretary of the conference Mostafa Zahraei said on Saturday.

“We will communicate the results of the conference to the UN and the practical proposals approved at the conference will become operational,” Zahraei said.

Former prime ministers and foreign ministers of some Asian, African and South American countries such as Iraq, Syria and Nicaragua will also attend the event, he added.

So far, 200 articles have been sent to the conference, all of which will be published in two books in Farsi and English, the secretary of the WAVE conference noted.

Zahraei also stressed Iran’s resolve to promote the role of the event from the level of a conference to an international body.

The conference comes against the backdrop of the growing threat of violence and extremism across the Middle East, particularly the atrocities committed by ISIL Takfiri terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

On December 18, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly voted to approve President Hassan Rouhani’s WAVE proposal, which calls on all nations across the globe to denounce violence and extremism. The Iranian president made the proposal in his address to the UN Disarmament Conference in New York on September 25.
