Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani says only the Israeli regime and some Western countries benefit from Saudi Arabia’s “erroneous move” to launch a military campaign against Yemen.

The Saudi aggression against Yemen targets the Muslim Ummah, Larijani said on Monday, slamming the military attacks.

“The result of this measure is the creation of other terrorist movements. Furthermore, such warmongering [moves] in the region can affect other Muslim countries as well,” he added.

Acts of terror have not diminished in the region during recent years “but have intensified in Syria, Iraq and even Libya,” Larijani said, adding that the crises in Iraq and Syria are an extension of terrorist moves in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Larijani made the remarks a day after Iranian lawmakers unanimously denounced Saudi Arabia’s war on Yemen and warned that the ongoing military aggression will undoubtedly backfire on Riyadh.

"The Al Saud regime should know that the fire rekindled [in Yemen] will engulf it and will impose heavy costs on the Muslim world," a group of 262 legislators said in a statement on Sunday.

Saudi Arabia’s air campaign against Yemen started on March 26 without a UN mandate in a bid to restore power to the country’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Ansarullah fighters have taken over state matters, citing the former Hadi government’s inability to properly run the affairs of the country and contain terror and corruption.

Hundred of civilians, including women and children, have been killed in the Saudi airborne attacks against Yemen.
