A senior Iranian Army commander says the Islamic Republic is faced with a new form of threats, stressing the country’s Armed Forces are fully prepared to confront enemies in proxy wars.

“The existence of terrorist groups has created new threats and we are fully prepared to enter the domain of proxy wars,” Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told reporters on the sidelines of major missile maneuvers in central Iran on Monday.

He added that Iran adopts tactics and approaches to counter threats given the existence of terrorist and Takfiri groups.

The Iranian Army is prepared enough to defend and establish full security along borders, he said.

“All moves on the borders as well as in the region and trans-regional [areas] are monitored,” Pourdastan added.

The top commander emphasized that Iran’s defense industry is highly capable of meeting the demands of the Armed Forces at the shortest possible time.

He said the Iranian Armed Forces have what it takes to defend the country and will make any country that poses a threat to Iran regret its actions.

Pourdastan’s remarks came as the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces successfully staged the final stage of the missile exercise, codenamed Beit-ul-Muqaddas 27, in the central province of Isfahan.

The Beit-ul-Muqaddas 27 drill began in three locations on May 21 and will end on May 27.

The Iranian Army’s Ground Forces successfully held war game Beit ul-Muqaddas 26 in central Isfahan province in May, 2014.

That drills are held to mark the anniversary of the liberation of the southwestern city of Khorramshahr during the eight-year imposed war with Iraq.

In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

Iran has also conducted other major military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and state-of-the-art equipment.

The Islamic Republic maintains that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
