Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian called on the United Nations to make efforts to bring the siege on Yemen to an end.

Amir Abdollahian and United Nations (UN) special envoy to Yemen, Ismail Weld al-Sheikh, on Wednesday discussed the latest developments in Yemen and the planned peace conference that will bring Yemeni parties to the negotiating table.

In the telephone conversation, the Iranian diplomat slammed the continuation of Saudi attacks on Yemen even on the eve of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
He further urged the United Nations to take effective measures for a halt to the military aggression and an end to the blockade imposed on the impoverished country.
For over two months, Yemen has been under a complete blockade by Saudi Arabia, which has prevented the delivery of food and medicine to war victims in the Arab country.
Sheikh, for his part, appreciated the Islamic Republic's supports for Yemen.
He also referred to the situation in Yemen as complicated and voiced concern over the continuation of conflicts in the Arabian Peninsula country.
The United Nations is planning to convene the peace talks on Yemen in Geneva on June 14.
It will come weeks after foreign military aggression against the country began.
On March 26, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies began to launch deadly air strikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
According to Yemen's Freedom House Foundation, the Saudi airstrikes have claimed the lives of nearly 4,000 Yemeni people so far while more than 7,000 others have been wounded, most of them civilians.
