Iran's Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani cited a contradiction in the Western claims and acts when it comes to respect for human rights, censuring Westerners for trying to impose their own human right defaults on the others.

“Unfortunately, Westerners try to impose their own view of human right, which is based on their own defaults, on all countries, while such an attitude is definitely incorrect,” Ayatollah Amoli Larijani said in a meeting with Cherif Bassiouni, president of the International Institute of Higher Studies in Criminal Sciences (ISISC), held in Tehran on Sunday.

The Iranian official also called for efforts to follow the theoretical human rights concepts when taking actions, and deplored a “significant and contradictory” gap between the West’s words and deeds on the issue of human rights.

Ayatollah Amoli Larijani further voiced Iran’s readiness to launch talks with Italy on the human right subjects and exchange the practical experiences with the European country in judicial fields.
Bassiouni, for his part, welcomed the idea of human right talks with Iran, noting that such negotiations will bring the countries and nations closer together.

The ISISC is an Italian not-for-profit foundation, dedicated to education, training and research in the fields of international and comparative criminal justice and human rights. Founded in 1972, the institute is located in Siracusa, Italy
