Iran strongly condemned the Israeli regime’s desecration of Muslims' sanctities, including the recent raid on the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)'s emergency meeting to take action against Tel Aviv.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham described Israel's dividing of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound into sections and time segments as violation of international laws, and called on the OIC to hold an extraordinary meeting to discuss action.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to discuss and study the necessary moves to confront the recent aggressions with all its power, accompanied by other OIC members during an OIC emergency meeting," she added.

Afkham also called on the UN and other international organizations to show immediate reaction to the illegal moves and measures of the occupying Zionist regime.

Her remarks came as Palestinians and Israeli forces clashed at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque for a third straight day on Tuesday, as Israeli forces were seen on the roof of the holy site.

Suleiman Ahmad, the president of Jerusalem's Affairs Department said that at least 17 Palestinians were injured in the clashes early on Tuesday.

"They have placed snipers on the rooftops and are using rubber bullets," Ahmad said.

The site of the mosque is revered as holy by Muslims and Jews and is a frequent flashpoint of violence.

Palestinians inside Al-Aqsa threw stones and fireworks at the Israeli forces and set up barricades to prevent them from closing the entrance to the mosque.

The police forces closed the doors to the mosque with the Palestinians still inside.
