syyedalikhamnaiLeader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says Britain has a history of humiliating nations, destroying cultural and civilizational heritage and taking control of their resources.

In his address today in Tehran to a group of senior commanders and officials of the Iranian Navy on the occasion of the National Nava Day, he said: "The

The Leader referred to the dark record of the colonialists, especially that of Britain, in humiliating nations, destroying their heritage, and undermining the national identity in order plunder their resources.

He added: "During the rule of the Qajar and Pahlavi dynasties the officials of the country were weak, meek and abased visi-a-vis the will of the domineering [powers], and thus unable to take any positive step in the interests of the Iranian nation."

Ayatollah Khamenei said, "The Iranian nation ought to know the worth, value and dignity gifted to them by the Islamic Revolution."

The Leader, as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, touched on the importance of maintaining security of Iran’s southern waters, and made it clear that as per tests and challenges ahead, the Islamic Republic Navy will function more powerfully and gloriously.

He called on the naval units of both the Army and the Islamic Revolution’s Guards Corps (IRGC) to pursue their missions more diligently, to further solidify their internal structure in order to strengthen the various skills, techniques, scientific ability, resolve and faith.

Earlier on Monday, Iran's Guardian Council (GC) unanimously passed a parliament approved bill to downgrade ties with Britain.

In an open session of the Majlis on Sunday, Iranian lawmakers passed a double-urgency bill to downgrade Tehran-London diplomatic ties to the level of charge d'affaires and to limit all economic and cultural collaborations to a minimum level.

The Iranian lawmakers acted on the bill in response to the UK's recent decision to impose unilateral sanctions against the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran, over allegations that Tehran's nuclear program may consist of a covert military aspect.

UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne declared on November 21 that London was terminating all contacts between the British financial system and the entire Iranian banking system. Iranian financial authorities, however, said such contacts had been severed long ago and that the announcement was purely political and would in no way impact Iran's financial dealings.

On Tuesday, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani announced that Tehran would review its relations with the European countries that have unilaterally imposed sanctions on Iran.

The sanctions were imposed after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors adopted a US-engineered resolution against Iran's nuclear program on November 18 that was poorly supported by its members and strongly refuted by the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member nations.

"> Iranian people and officials, thanks to the blessings the Islamic Revolution has bestowed upon them, have crushed the enemies' designs because of their steadfastness."
