ahmed khatmiehran's interim Friday Prayers leader has condemned the recent terrorist attack in Damascus, saying “resistance against global devils and extortionists” is the only viable option for the Syrian government and nation.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami said the Wednesday bombing was a measure of the sheer spite that the arrogant powers hold against the Syrian regime and nation.

The blast at the Syrian National Security headquarters claimed the lives of Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, his deputy Assef Shawkat and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. National Security chief General Hisham Ikhtiyar, who had sustained injuries, was also pronounced dead on Friday.

The terrorist Free Syrian Army has claimed responsibility for the attack. It has also warned of more violence in the capital in the coming days.
Ayatollah Khatami said Syria is paying for its support for the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah as well as its ties with the Islamic Republic.

He said the US, the UK, European Union and their Arab allies and some of Syria’s neighbors form the ring of conspirators against the crisis-hit country.

The senior cleric further condemned the tragic massacre of the Muslims in Myanmar and held the country’s government responsible for the killings.

He further called on the international bodies, especially the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to act and fulfill their duties regarding the mass killings in this country.

According to recent reports, Muslims in Myanmar are in a tragic human plight. Reports say 650 of the nearly one million Rohingya Muslims have been killed as of June 28 during clashes in the western region of Rakhine. This is while 1,200 others are missing and 80,000 more have been displaced.

The UN has described Rohingya Muslims as one of the most persecuted minorities in the world.

They are deprived of basic rights including education and employment and are subject to forced labor, extortion and other coercive measures.

The government of Myanmar refuses to recognize Rohingyas, who it claims are not natives and classifies them as illegal migrants, although they have lived in the country for generations.
