Militants belonging to the ISIL Takfiri group have attacked the Kurdish-controlled town of Qara Tapa in Iraq, killing at least 10 people.

On Monday, seven Kurdish fighters and three civilians lost their lives in the attack by the Takfiri terrorists on the city.

"Almost half of the town's population fled today. We're talking about around 9,000 people," AFP quoted one of the residents of the city who gave his name as Haidar.
Reports also said that the militants fired mortar rounds on the city, which has a mixed population of Arabs, Kurds and Turkmen.

"The people who remain are young men who are carrying weapons to defend their town alongside Peshmerga fighters," Haidar said.

The overall security situation in Iraq has worsened over the past months after the ISIL Takfiri terrorists, of whom many are foreign militants, took control of parts of the country’s northern and western regions.

According to the United Nations, at least 1,110 people were killed in acts of violence across Iraq in September.

The ISIL terrorists have been committing heinous crimes in the captured areas, including mass executions and beheading of people. They have threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and Izadi Kurds.
