Kurdish forces backed by the Iraqi army have pushed back the ISIL Takfiri terrorists and regained full control of the town of Qara Tapa in Iraq’s eastern province of Diyala.

According to reports on Wednesday, the Iraqi air force assisted the Kurdish Peshmerga forces to emerge triumphant in their operations against the Takfiri terrorists in the town which has a mixed population of Arabs, Kurds and Turkmen.

There are no reports yet on the number of casualties in the fighting.

Clashes erupted in the town between Kurdish fighters and the ISIL on Monday. Reports on the same day said that seven Kurdish fighters and three civilians lost their lives in the attack by the Takfiri terrorists on the town.

"Almost half of the town's population fled today. We're talking about around 9,000 people," AFP quoted one of the residents of the city who gave his name as Haidar on Monday.

According to the International Organization of Migration (IOM), over 1.8 million people in Iraq have been displaced as a result of atrocities committed by ISIL Takfiri terrorists. The IOM report shows that Nineveh and Anbar Provinces have the largest displaced population with 147,875 and 83,979 families respectively. The two provinces are the areas most affected by the current crisis in Iraq.

ISIL terrorists operating in Iraq have committed many atrocities targeting civilians, especially Kurds, which has compelled many of them to flee from their homes.
