Kurdish Peshmerga fighters have recaptured more areas from ISIL terrorists in Iraq's second largest city, Mosul, and the capital of semi-autonomous Kurdish region, Erbil, Press TV reports.

The Peshmerga succeeded in liberating over two dozen villages located east of Mosul and southwest of Erbil.

Kurdish forces have recently seized the areas surrounding the towns of Makhmour and al-Gweir, some 28 miles (45 kilometers) from Erbil.

Senior Peshmerga officials said after months of confrontations with the ISIL Takfiri terrorists, the situation on the ground is changing in favor of the anti-ISIL camp.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi army was making headway in west of Anbar and in Diyala provinces.

“You cannot do anything without… the Peshmerga on the ground,” a Kurdish fighter said, adding that only in one day they killed at least 50 ISIL terrorists.

The Iraqi army has so far managed to make numerous gains in the fight against the ISIL militants, pledging to continue the battle against the extremist group.

The ISIL militants have been carrying out horrific acts of violence, including public decapitations, against Iraqi communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians.
