Head of Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim rejected presence of any foreign army in Iraq on the pretext of fighting ISIL terrorists and emphasized that Iraqis have the ability to defend their homeland.

Hakim, speaking in a ceremony marking the auspicious birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), warned against certain demands by foreign forces and said, 'Some foreign politicians have talked about the necessity of forign forces in Iraq to fight ISIL. This idea is dangerous and we warn against the secret goals behind it.'

'People of Iraq have the ability to liberate their homeland from the terrorists of ISIL and there is no need of foreign interference and international or American forces,' he added.

Rejecting any foreign interference in Iraq, Hakim said, 'The world community should help Iraqi forces who have been mobilised to face terrorism if they are really serious in their help.'

All iraqis, and not only Shia Muslims, are now fighting the terrorists of ISIL, said al-Hakim.

Emphasizing the necessity of unity and religious tolerance, he said terrorism wanted to sow seeds of disunity in Iraq, but it turned out to be a factor of unity and power of people.

Referring to recent victories of Iraqi armed forces, volunteers, and Iraqi tribes against the terrorists, al-Hakim urged Iraqi forces to continue their battles until the complete liberation of Iraq.

He said ISIL is not only the enemy of Iraq but also a threat to all regional countries and the world.
