A senior Iraqi official says the so-called US-led coalition against the ISIL Takfiri group is not doing enough in the face of militants, calling for increased firepower to combat the terrorists.

The coalition "should be more serious, more effective," the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlaq told the Associated Press on Monday.

"I don't think that the intervention of this coalition is serious enough” in comparison with ISIL’s strength, he added.

Mutlaq also noted that the US military campaign does not match the scale of the ISIL threat.

"We would welcome any help which does not contradict the independence of the country, and any help which unites the society and [does] not divide the society in Iraq," the Iraqi official said.
He further emphasized that Iraq needs more advanced weapons than what the ISIL militant group currently possesses.

The ISIL terrorists control some parts of Iraq and Syria. They are engaged in crimes against humanity in the areas under their control. They have terrorized and killed people of all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, and Christians.

Since last August, the US and some of its allies have been conducting airstrikes against what they say are ISIL positions in Iraq. Some members of the US-led coalition also started bombarding ‘ISIL targets’ inside Syria in September.

However, the raids have so far failed to dislodge the Takfiri group.
