At least 35 ISIL members have been killed by the Iraqi army in the northern Salahuddin province, officials say.

According to a Sunday statement by Iraq's Ministry of Defense, the airstrikes were launched on Tikrit Air Academy, a former US-military base called COBSpeicher, in the southwest of Salahuddin.

The Iraqi army forces, joined by volunteer fighters mainly the Popular Mobilization Forces, are seeking to retake control of regions being held by the militants.

Meanwhile, Iraqi forces also launched airstrikes on the northern oil-rich city of Kirkuk against what was reportedly cars laden with explosives.

Reports said that the Yabani Bridge in Iraq’s western province of Anbar was liberated by Iraqi forces, who also destroyed five car bombs in the area.

The Takfiri group has been committing heinous crimes against all ethnic and religious groups in Iraq, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians, Izadi Kurds, and others.

The Iraqi army, backed by Kurdish forces and volunteer Shia and Sunni fighters, has been engaged in operations to drive the ISIL terrorists out of the areas they have been holding since June 2014.
