Members of the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group have abducted hundreds of people in Iraq’s conflict-stricken northern province of Kirkuk.

A local source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Arabic-language al-Sumaria satellite television network that the Takfiri militants kidnapped 200 individuals in the al-Zaab district of the province on Wednesday.

The source said that the civilians were taken hostage on the alleged ground that they were in collaboration with Iraqi security forces, adding that the fate and whereabouts of the abductees are unknown.

Russian help may be required

Meanwhile, the head of the Iraqi parliament’s defense and security committee said on Wednesday that Baghdad may soon have to put in a request for Russian aerial attacks against Daesh positions, and expects Moscow to play a bigger role than Washington in the fight against the Takfiri terrorist group.

“We might be forced to ask Russia to launch air strikes in Iraq soon. I think the upcoming few days or weeks Iraq will be forced to ask Russia to launch air strikes and that depends on their success in Syria,” Hakim al-Zamili said.

“We are seeking to see Russia have a bigger role in Iraq... Yes, definitely a bigger role than the Americans,” he pointed out.

Also on Wednesday, Iraqi security forces struck Daesh positions with a number of mortar shells and artillery rounds near the city of Amiriyah Fallujah, situated roughly 40 kilometers (24 miles) west of the capital, Baghdad.

At least eleven Daesh extremists were killed in the process, and three vehicles belonging to the militants were also destroyed.

Separately, Iraqi army soldiers struck eight Daesh bases in the Albu Issa and Albu Faraj districts, located more than 120 kilometers (74 miles) west of Baghdad, in the embattled western province of Anbar, killing 15 Daesh terrorists. The troops also defused 15 improvised explosive devices and detonated two booby-trapped houses.

Gruesome violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since Daesh Takfiris launched an offensive in June 2014, and took control of portions of Iraqi territory. The militants have been committing vicious crimes against all ethnic and religious communities in Iraq, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and others.
