Shaykh Khalid al-Mulla stated that Ayatollah al-Sistani’s fatwa was issued at an appropriate time such that that all regional equations and the sickening thoughts of the enemies were damaged.

Referring to Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani’s landmark June 2014 fatwa in which the renowned Shi’a source of emulation called on “all able-bodied Iraqis” to defend the country, its people, the honour of its citizens, and its sacred places after the capture of Mosul by Daesh forces, Shaykh Khalid Abdul-Wahhab al-Mulla, the head of the Union of Iraqi Sunni Scholars, spoke at a ceremony entitled “Political Developments and the Effects of Ayatollah al-Sistani’s Fatwa on National Unity in Iraq,” alongside Shi’a cleric Sayyid Murtadha al-Kashmiri, the representative of Ayatollah al-Sistani at the Imam Ali Institute in London.

Shaykh al-Mulla described the destruction of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group as “near” and said, “The obligatory jihad fatwa issued by this source of emulation was like a dagger which severed the head of terrorism in Iraq.”

He said that the emergence of Daesh is due to the mistakes of political and security officials and added, “the emergence of Daesh is not just an accidental event but rather this terrorist phenomenon is like a ball of fire which will be destroyed if it moves in any direction.”

The Iraqi Sunni cleric stated that Ayatollah al-Sistani’s fatwa was issued at an appropriate time such that that all regional equations and the sickening thoughts of the enemies were damaged.

In an other part of his speech, Shaykh al-Mulla referred to the effects of the jihad fatwa issued by Ayatollah al-Sistani on the formation of the Popular Mobilization Forces and said, “Due to the jihad fatwa, the flood of Daesh’s presence in Iraq and its entrance into the boundaries of the Babil Governorate was prevented. Ayatollah al-Sistani’s fatwa also prevented the complete collapse of Diyala Governorate.”

He added that the formation of the Popular Mobilization Forces created fear in the hearts of many terrorist groups movements and made the sweetness of the fall of Salahuddin Governorate bitter for their forces.
