According to the Shiite News Correspondent, With more than 60 percent of the votes counted from 18 provinces of Iraq, Shiite Islamic Dawa Party's leader Maliki's State of Law alliance is ahead in seven key provinces including Basra and
Karbala. His bloc is also ahead in the capital Baghdad. His lead is followed by the Shia parties Iraqi National Alliance and former Secular Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's Iraqiya bloc. Iraqiya is leading in the oil-rich province of Kirkuk and Anbar province. No single bloc is expected to get the majority of the votes to form a government.
