27 martyred in Shia majority areas of Iraq

iraq blast123At least 27 people have been killed in the latest spate of terrorist attacks across Iraq, security and medical sources say.

In the deadliest attack on Tuesday, a parked car bomb went off in a crowded market in the Shia district of Karaada located in eastern Baghdad, leaving 14 people dead.


Medical and security officials said that 45 people were injured in the bomb attack.


In western Anbar province, where government forces are fighting against the al-Qaeda-linked group of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, three soldiers were killed and around 20 others wounded when a car bomb ripped through the entrance of the governor's compound in the provincial capital Ramadi.


Elsewhere, gunmen killed four policemen by a police checkpoint west of the town of Baiji in northern Iraq.

Another bomb attack in the town of Himreen in eastern Diyala province took three lives while three young men died when gunmen opened fire on them in Diyala's capital, Baquba.
Iraq is currently experiencing its worst cycle of violence since 2008.
According to figures compiled by the Iraqi ministries of health, interior and defense, some 1,013 people were killed in January alone, making it the deadliest month since April 2008.
