iraqi-christians-Iraq-flagThe Christians who have been forced to flee the Iraqi city of Mosul following an ultimatum by the ISIL terrorists say they were mistreated and robbed by the Takfiri militants, Press TV reports.

“They took everything. We were running away from Mosul and ISIL checkpoint stopped us. They snatched my purse and took our IDs. They said ‘you are Christians, you have been in Mosul for too long, now it’s time to leave forever,’” said a Christian woman taking refuge in the Kurdish city of Duhok.

The ISIL militants recently started marking houses belonging to the Christian community and issued a statement that told the Christians “to convert, pay a special tax, leave the city, or face death.”

Thousands of Iraqi Christians left Mosul ahead of the ISIL group’s ultimatum. A large number of Shias as well as people from other faiths escaped Mosul fearing violence by the ISIL terrorists, who have exploded shrines and mosques.

“What kind of faith is this? What kind of religion do they believe in? I only thank God they let my son and husband live. I only thank God my girls weren’t attacked. They are monsters, they have no religion,” the Christian woman added.

Meanwhile, sources said on Monday that ISIL terrorists took over Mar (Saint) Behnam, a 4th century monastery run by the Syriac Catholic church near the predominantly Christian town of Qaraqosh, on Sunday.

The terrorists expelled the monastery’s resident monks and paid no heed to their request for saving some of the monastery’s relics.

Christian residents from the area said the monks walked several miles along a deserted road and were eventually picked up by Kurdish peshmerga fighters, who drove them to Qaraqosh.

“They are destroying thousands of years of civilization. The agenda of displacing Christians is not at all new, they are working with some regional countries which want Iraq to be ripped apart. All their hatred toward Christians can no longer be hidden,” Gabriel Touma, the head of Lady Mary Monastery told Press TV.

The crisis in Iraq escalated after the ISIL terrorists took control of Mosul on June 10.
