Families of the Lebanese soldiers and security officers abducted by Takfiri terrorists have staged a protest in the capital Beirut.

The protesters on Friday blocked a main highway in Beirut and called on Lebanese authorities to negotiate more seriously with the Takfiri militants.

Lebanese security forces reportedly used water cannon to disperse the protesters. Some of the protesters were also arrested by Lebanese police during the demonstration.

Lebanon's Interior Minister Nohad Machnouk also reacted to the protest, saying blocking roads "is not the answer."

The protest was organized after the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front threatened to kill one of the kidnapped soldiers on Thursday.

The families of the abducted soldiers and security forces staged a similar protest on Monday, demanding that the government do more to release their loved ones.

The al-Nusra Front and the ISIL Takfiri militants overran the eastern Lebanese town of Arsal, situated about 124 kilometers (77 miles) northeast of Beirut, in August, killing and capturing some 20 soldiers and police officers there. They later executed three of the hostages.

Over the past months, Lebanon has been suffering from terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda-linked militants and random rocket attacks, which are viewed as a spillover of the conflict in Syria.

The ISIL Takfiri terrorists currently control parts of Syria mostly in the east and north.
