A senior Iranian official has reiterated the Islamic Republic’s resolve to continue efforts aimed at ending the ongoing wave of Takfirism and extremism plaguing the Middle East region.

Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, made the remarks in a meeting with Secretary General of Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut.

During the talks, both officials discussed the latest developments in the region.

Velayati, who also heads the Center for Strategic Research of Iran’s Expediency Council, pointed to the recent victories on the battlefield against Takfiri terrorists in Syria, saying the achievements were the result of perseverance and resilience of Iran, Hezbollah, Iraq, Syria and Russia.

He added that all “sinister” enemy plots will definitely be foiled.

Nasrallah, in turn, expressed satisfaction with the developments on the battle ground against terrorist groups.

Velayati arrived in the Lebanese capital on Monday at the head of a high-ranking delegation to hold talks with the country’s officials on issues of mutual interest.

Ahead of his departure for Beirut, the Iranian official sat down with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem in Damascus.

The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria has thus far claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people and left over one million injured, according to the United Nations.
