suleimanLebanese President Michel Suleiman has lauded Iran's efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation, saying that Beirut is ready to remove obstacles in the way of the expansion of relations with Tehran.

In a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Beirut Ghazanfar Roknabadi on Monday, the Lebanese president

expressed hope that regional nations will continue to be triumphant, dignified and calm.

During the meeting, Roknabadi submitted Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s message to his Lebanese counterpart on the anniversary of the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement’s triumph over Israel in the 33-day war in 2006.
In his message, President Ahmadinejad said the victory, which led to a humiliating defeat of the Israeli regime and its regional stooges, “will be undoubtedly an unforgettable memory” of the Lebanese people’s resistance and will show a transparent way to maintaining independence and dignity of nations.

Israel unleashed the all-out offensive on Lebanon six years ago under the pretext of releasing Israeli soldiers allegedly captured by the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah in the southern border region of the country.

The invasion claimed the lives of nearly 1,200 Lebanese people, most of them civilians.

Roknabadi, for his part, warned against the US-Israeli plot against Syria and expressed Iran's opposition to foreign pressure with the purpose of changing the will of the Syrian people.

He also outlined Iran's efforts in finding a political solution to the ongoing crisis in Syria through consultation with different countries.

Syria has been the scene of violence by armed groups since March 2011. The violence has claimed the lives of thousands of people, including many security forces.

Four top Syrian officials were killed in a terrorist bombing at the headquarters of the Syrian National Security Council in the capital on Wednesday.

Damascus blames “outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, asserting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
