genveLebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has praised the recent round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the six major world powers in Geneva as a diplomatic “victory” for the Islamic Republic.

Berri expressed satisfaction with the positive atmosphere that emerged after two days of nuclear talks between Tehran

and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the United States, China, Russia, France and Britain - plus Germany in Geneva, Lebanese newspaper The Daily Star reported on Thursday.

The Lebanese official further described the latest negotiations as “a victory for Iran’s diplomacy,” stressing that the Islamic Republic, like any other country, “has the right to develop peaceful nuclear technology.”

“We should draw lessons from what happened and is happening in Geneva and learn that the quickest way to address disputes, whether major or minor, is through dialogue,” Berri added.

Iran and the six world powers discussed Tehran’s nuclear energy program behind closed doors in the Swiss city of Geneva on October 15-16, where Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tabled Iran’s new proposed package titled “Closing an Unnecessary Crisis, Opening New Horizons.”

Following the negotiations, EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, lauded the talks as the “most detailed” and most “substantive” ones ever held between the two sides, describing Iran’s new proposal as an “important contribution.”
