unsc1Lebanese officials will ask the world powers to sell Beirut anti-spying equipment that it needs to counter Israel's intelligence activities, a report says.

Lebanese As Safir newspaper said on Monday that Lebanese lawmakers as well as foreign, defense and

telecommunications ministers will ask for the equipment during a meeting with ambassadors of five permanent members of the UN Security Council (UNSC) next week.

The European Union’s high representative in Lebanon will also attend the meeting, which is scheduled to be held on November 26.

The report quoted a military source as saying that Lebanon needed equipment worth 20 million dollars to block Israeli espionage.

On November 6, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri revealed that Israel had installed spying stations along Lebanon’s southern border, “starting from al-Naqoura passing by Khiyam all the way to Shebaa.”

The largest station is reportedly deployed in al-Abbad and Jal al-Alam areas, which are located near the UN-designated Blue Line.

Israel has also installed devices that were directed toward major mobile phone stations in Lebanon to wiretap conversations.

Beirut says Tel Aviv's spying activities have negatively affected not only Lebanon but also UN peace-keeping forces in the country.
