Syria’s government forces have managed to recapture the town of Mleiha, southeast of the capital, Damascus, from foreign-backed militants, reports say.

Reports said on Thursday that the army forces took over the control of the town, which had been held by militants for more than a year.

A Syrian military source said that troops also killed a large number of militants there and that clashes continue in areas surrounding the town.

Mleiha lies on the edge of the eastern region of Ghouta near the capital’s International Airport.

Mulayhaha lies on the edge of the eastern Ghouta region near Damascus International Airport. The area is full of farmland and small towns that have been used by the Takfiri militants to launch their operations.

The development came a day after ISIL Takfiri militants seized eight villages between the city of Aleppo in northern Syria and the Turkish border. The ISIL terrorists took control of the villages following fierce clashes with other militant groups in the region. More than 50 militants from both sides were killed.

The villages will reportedly open ISIL militants’ way to attack the towns of Marea and Azaz, which are controlled by the al-Qaeda-affiliated group, Islamic Front.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011. According to some sources, more than 170,000 people have been killed and millions displaced due to the violence fueled by the foreign-backed militants.

Senior Syrian officials say the clout of supporters of terrorists operating inside Syria is in decline and that the Western sponsors of terrorists will lose their power.
