Over 500 militants have laid down their weapons and surrendered to Syrian army troops in nine provinces, as Syrian forces inflict heavy blows on insurgents.

According to the Syria Now news network, 520 members of Western-backed terrorist groups waging war on Syria surrendered to the army in Dara'a, Damascus, Homs, Hama, al-Suwayda, Latakia, Deir al-Zor, Idlib and al-Raqqah provinces.
In another incident, Syrian troops inflicted heavy blows on terrorists in Aleppo and Dara'a and thwarted militants’ attacks on the outskirts of Homs and Kenitra, killing scores of them.
Army troops also launched attacks on militant hideouts in Aleppo and its outskirts, killing dozens of terrorists and destroying five vehicles with mounted machine guns.
Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011. According to some sources, more than 170,000 people have been killed and millions displaced due to the violence fueled by Western-backed militants.
