Senior Syrian officials say the country will push ahead with its efforts to fight against terrorism and establish national reconciliation, Press TV reports.

Delegates from 25 western and regional countries participated in an international conference on combating terrorism and religious extremism hosted by the Syrian government in Damascus.

Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi underlined the countries’ determination to push ahead with the fight against terrorism.

“The Syrian government continues fighting terrorism wherever it may be present on Syrian soil, and provide all needed support to the Syrian armed forces,” al-Halqi said, adding, “The government will also continue working to reach a comprehensive national reconciliation to defeat the conspiracy.”

At the conference, high ranking Syrian officials also highlighted the support provided by some countries for the Takfiri terrorists with the aim of escalating sectarian tension and destroying the Arab country.

“You should fight terrorists and Takfiri ideology by facing religious extremism and facing all those supporting such extremism,” said Bouthaina Shaaban, a political and media adviser to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. “There are known countries that train, finance, and arm extremists. The world should adopt a united stance against those who support terrorism.”

Syrian officials believe the event will raise awareness about the root cause of terrorism and will also show how the country is being ruined by terrorists who enjoy the support of some western and regional countries.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The ISIL terrorists that control large parts of Syria and Iraq have threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, and Christians.

More than 200,000 people have been killed so far in the conflict in Syria, according to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein.

Western powers and some of their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are reportedly supporting the militants.
