Kurdish forces have killed at least 16 militants with the ISIL Takfiri terrorist group in an attack in northeastern Syria near the border with Turkey.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the attack took place on Saturday, targeting ISIL positions south of the town of Ras al-Ain in Hasakeh Province.

Ras al-Ain was the scene of fierce fighting last year before Kurdish troops forced the militants out of the town.

Clashes were also reported at the militant-besieged border town of Kobani, which lies some 100 kilometers (60 miles) away. ISIL militants launched an assault on the town on September 16, but have been held off.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011.

More than 200,000 people have died in the conflict in Syria, according to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Zeid al-Hussein. Over 7.2 million Syrians have also become internally displaced due to the ongoing Syrian crisis, according to the UN.

The ISIL terrorists control some parts of Syria and Iraq. They are engaged in crimes against humanity in the areas under their control. ISIL militants have terrorized and killed people of all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, and Christians.
