A senior ISIL leader, who had been involved in many ISIL beheadings, has been found decapitated in eastern Syria, a UK-based opposition group says.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Tuesday the decapitated man was an Egyptian national known as the deputy “emir” of ISIL’s self-declared police force, al-Hesab.

Citing contacts on the ground, the group said his body was found near a power plant in the eastern city of al-Mayadeen in Deir ez-Zor Province and that there were signs of torture on his body.

According to the group, the message “This is evil, you Sheikh” was found on the corpse and there was a cigarette in his mouth. Residents in ISIL-controlled areas said the militants have banned smoking in public.

Rami Abdulrahman, who heads the opposition group, said it was unclear whether the ISIL beheaded him or whether it was local people or other militants.

The ISIL terrorists currently control swathes of territory across Syria and Iraq. They have been committing heinous crimes in the captured areas, including mass executions and beheading of people.

The militants have been hit with numerous setbacks in Syria over the past weeks. The opposition group said Monday that Kurdish fighters battling the ISIL Takfiri terrorists in the Syrian border town of Kobani now control 80 percent of the town, including the city’s entire security district.

ISIL has also suffered huge blows in neighboring Iraq as Iraqi army continues to retake some key areas in the country’s central and western parts.
