The Syrian army has launched large-scale military operations against foreign-backed Takfiri militants across the country, inflicting heavy losses on them in the provinces of Idlib and Homs.

A military source told Syria’s official news agency, SANA, that government troops on Thursday stormed the hideouts of militants from different Takfiri terror groups, including the al-Nusra Front, the so-called Islamic Front and Jund al-Aqsa in the Mount Zawiya region in the northwestern province of Idlib.

Elsewhere on the battlefield, the army forces also managed to gain more ground against the foreign-sponsored extremists in the cities of al-Rastan and Talbiseh as well as the Tal Abu al-Sanabel and Um Sharshouh areas in the western province of Homs, according to SANA.

A large number of terrorists, including field commanders, have been killed in the suburbs of Homs and Idlib during clashes with Syrian armed forces.

In a similar anti-terror operation on Tuesday, Syrian troops killed many militants during clashes in various areas across the conflict-torn country, including the suburbs of the capital, Damascus, and Idlib Province.

Last week, Syria’s Defense Minister Fahd Jassem al-Freij reaffirmed the determination of the country’s armed forces to crush the Takfiri militants fighting against the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

Since March 2011, Syria has been grappling with a deadly violence fueled by foreign-backed Takfiri terror groups. The crisis has led to the death of more than 200,000 people so far, according to reports.
