The Syrian army, backed by Russian airstrikes, has retaken control of areas in the country’s northwestern province of Lattakia, after inclining heavy casualties on the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.

Over the past 24 hours, Syrian troops made fresh gains on multiple fronts near the village of Salma in Lattakia, Arabic language daily al-Hadath News reported on Monday.

According to the report, the forces attacked a terrorist field headquarters in Salma, which has been coordinating Daesh operations in Lattakia. They also took control of several building blocks inside the village.

Russian fighter jets have also carried out several attacks on Daesh positions in the village over the past 24 hours, said the Defense Ministry’s spokesperson Igor Konashenkov.

The attacks were carried out by a group of Sukhoi Su-24M bombers which pounded a terrorist field headquarters near Salma.

“A direct hit of a guided KAB-500 air bomb completely destroyed a building with militant commanders inside," said Konashenkov.

“The airstrike also eliminated five SUVs with ZU-23 double-barreled 23mm anti-aircraft guns mounted on them that were parked nearby,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Syrian army also managed to capture the village of Kafr Dalba, which is the entrance to Selma. They also advanced to take a strategic mountainous area in the village, according to al-Hadath.

The army also inflicted casualties on the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front militant group, destroying at least 20 vehicles, equipped with heavy machine guns.

Also on Saturday, Syrian military aircraft bombarded hideouts of Daesh terrorists in the villages of Atshan, al-Tamanah and Tel Sakik as well as several other areas in the province of Hama. At least 50 Daesh terrorists were killed during the attacks.

Syrian forces have restlessly been battling Daesh terrorists on different fronts throughout the war-ravaged country, which has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011.

The foreign-backed militancy in the Arab country has left over 250,000 people killed.
