Battle, Victory Only Way to Defeat Extremism: Syrian President Al-Assad

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said Damascus will continue its battle against terrorism and extremism without hesitation and with full force, as it's the only way to save Syria.

According to the al-Al-Akhbar Lebanese daily, President Assad, who was speaking at a conference in support of resistance in Damascus, said it is wrong to put too much hope on peace talks as the real solution to the Syrian crisis is all-out military campaign against terrorist groups all while strengthening intra-Syrian dialogue.

“It is the Syrian people who will have the final say in their future affairs. Victory over the terrorist groups will pave the way for a political solution to the crisis as it is what our people want,” he added.

“We believe in dialogue. However, this should be with those who can and are able to make their own decisions, not those who are controlled by Qatar, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. They have no political agenda for Syria,” he noted.

Meantime, indirect UN-brokered peace talks between Damascus and the foreign-backed opposition on the conflict in Syria are going nowhere.
The negotiations have time and again failed to conclude as the opposition delegation, mainly the so-called High Negotiations Committee (HNC), has made demands the government rejects. Those demands include Assad’s stepping down in a future government.

Syrian Ambassador to the UN Bashar al-Ja’afari, who also leads the Damascus negotiating team, has once again rejected the opposition’s demand to exclude Assad from a “transitional government.” He says it is “premature to talk about it,” according to UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.
