A newly-formed Battalion of the Syrian Army's elite forces, known as ISIL Hunters, revealed on Monday that the US Thursday air attack on the Syrian Army positions in Eastern Deir Ezzur was a cover for a joint plot of Kurds and ISIL terrorists against the army.

The ISIL Hunters once went under military training by the Russian forces.

The Hunters said in a statement that they received information about presence of ISIL terrorists in the town of al-Sowarah that is under the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Wednesday.

The statement said that the Syrian government forces deployed in Khasham region were monitoring movements of heavy military equipment of ISIL in the SDF-held East of Khasham, adding the ISIL further stormed the Syrian army positions.

It added that the ISIL Hunters moved towards the positions of the Syrian army from their positions near the Euphrates River to repel the ISIL's attack.

The statement said that the ISIL retreated towards the SDF-held Kokiko gas field after heavy fighting with the army men, adding the US air force and artillery units started pounding the positons of the Syrian army to provide back up for fleeing SDF and ISIL.

The statement went on to say that SDF and ISIL carried out a joint plot against the Syrian army, adding there is no difference between the SDF and ISIL for the Hunters as both are terrorist groups.

Field sources reported on Sunday that the Syrian Army sent a large number of fresh forces and a large volume of military hardware to Eastern Deir Ezzur after its positions in the region were pounded by the US fighter jets a couple of days ago.

The sources said that the army dispatched a large number of forces and a large volume of military equipment to the Eastern bank of the Euphrates River in Eastern Deir Ezzur.

The sources further added that several artillery units and military vehicles were sent to al-Jazeera Khasham, al-Tabiyah and Marat.

The US-led coalition carried out several airstrikes on Syrian forces in Deir Ezzur province on Thursday.

The US military was claiming that so-called anti-ISIL coalition forces repelled a threatening Syrian Army-led attack consisting of five hundred troops – backed by artillery, tanks, multiple-launch rocket systems and mortars – late on Wednesday and early on Thursday against positions of Arab and Kurdish militias at energy fields near the town of Khasham on the Eastern bank of the Euphrates River in Deir Ezzur province.

According to reports, more than 100 pro-government forces were killed in the airstrikes carried out by the US-led coalition in Syria's Deir Ezzur.
