The casualties came after the government troops tried to clear Qastal al-Harami district of the city of

insurgents on Thursday.

Syrian government troops are strengthening their grip on Aleppo as they clear more districts of the insurgents.

On Wednesday, the Syrian army destroyed an insurgent command center in Aleppo’s Sayyed Ali district.

Meanwhile, the armed groups have slammed residents of Aleppo for refusing to join them.

They say foreign militants are fighting alongside them against the Syrian government.

Some al-Qaeda-linked militants are also said to be among the mercenaries. Damascus has already blamed foreign-backed militants and infiltrators for the 18-month-long deadly violence in the country.

Syria has been the scene of deadly unrest since mid-March 2011 and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence
