eygbtEgyptian police have reportedly arrested several people in connection with the gruesome murder of four Shia Muslims near the capital, Cairo.

According to the Egyptian news website, Alyoum Sabeh, police in the city of Giza near the capital

identified the culprits through the shocking videos of the murder, which spread online following Sunday’s incident.

On that day, a large mob of Salafis attacked the residence of Shia cleric Hassan Shehata in the town of Zawiyat Abu Muslim on the outskirts of Cairo. Salafis also set fire to the house and beat up the people there.

The cleric was killed along with three other Shias during a ceremony on the birth anniversary of the 12th Shia Imam, reports say.

They were killed and then dragged out into the streets by Takfiri extremists in Giza.

Egyptian Prime Minister Hesham Kandil denounced the killing, saying he was closely following the investigation into the incident and also promised that the culprits will be punished.

The incident comes a week after Salafist clerics insulted Shia Muslims during a rally attended by the Egyptian president.

The Shia community is being targeted by Salafis, with the support of countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Shias, who form just one percent of Egypt’s 84 million population, are often under attack by extremist groups in the North African country.
