The Anti-Extremism Cell (AEC) of the Crime Investigation Department seized a large quantity of explosives, suicide jackets and bombs in a raid carried out on Monday in the outskirts of the city. AEC chief Ali Raza said information was received about takfiri outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan terrorists taking refuge in Orangi Town.

Acting on the tip-off, a police party raided the Mominabad locality, where the law enforcers were met with armed resistance. The AEC team retaliated but failed to detain any suspects.

Raza said three suicide jackets, 100 kilograms of explosives, six ball bombs, a Kalashnikov, bottle bombs, 30 detonators, 100 metres of detonating cord with batteries, six additional batteries, 18 packet bombs, three hand grenades, 13 mobile phones, three remote controls, hundreds of Kalashnikov bullets, five suicide jacket covers, a large quantity of ball bearings, two vehicle registration plates (including a government plate), six police uniforms and three TT pistols were found at the suspects’ hideout.

He said it was the largest recovery of the year, adding that the suspects were planning to carry out major attacks across the city.
