Arrests of the anti-takfiri activists belonging to the Civil Society evoked an instant reaction from pro-activists who gathered in front of the entrance of Frere Police Station in Karachi.

They raised slogans against the PPP’s Sindh government for ordering arrests of the anti-takfiri protestors from outside Sindh Chief Minister’s (CM) House. Among the arrested: were Jibran Nasir, Kurram Zaki and some other known figures.

Eye witnesses said the policemen rounded up the peaceful protestors in a sudden crackdown. Most of them are reported to be in the Frere Police Station lockup while others in Defence Police Station. Officials said they were arrested for rallying in the Red Zone, which is a violation of the code of conduct.

The protestors had warned the government that they would be back to resume sit-in outside CM House if the banned Deobandi takfiri outfit ASWJ’s Aurangzeb Farooqi was allowed to stage rally. Government failed to do so and they resumed their protest on Thursday evening.

Due to stiff protest and pressure from Civil Society and many parties, who back their anti-takfiri protest, arrested comrades were released after some hours detention.
